Echostar brings on Harris OSI-Traffic for mosaic ads

EchoStar
Communications Corporation and its DISH Network satellite TV service have
chosen Harris Corporation’s OSi-Traffic broadcast inventory management and
accounting solution to manage EchoStar’s ad sales commercial insertions and
billing related to its interactive mosaic, DishHOME, Channel 100. Available on
DISH Network satellite TV service, the DishHOME Mosaic was launched in August
2005.

The
DishHOME Mosaic consists of six on-screen video windows, each displaying what’s
playing on a variety of channels at that moment. The windows can be refreshed
regularly with six new programming offerings. During transition breaks between
programming changes, commercials play on all six windows. Additional
advertising can be displayed on DishHOME in the upper-right corner of the
screen in the form of a video banner. The bottom portion of the screen shows a
scrolling ticker that can also contain promotional or advertising information.

Harris
OSi-Traffic gives broadcasters the ability to manage multiple channels more
efficiently. The application is particularly suited to DishHOME because it
supports content from different sources simultaneously, such as satellite and
fiber feeds.

“OSi-Traffic
was chosen for its unique ability to manage the traffic related to multiple
on-screen events simultaneously,” said Ed Adams, vice president and general
manager of North American Media, Harris Broadcast Communications. “In the
case of DishHOME, the primary event is the six-window mosaic, and the secondary
events are the interactive video banners and the DishHOME video background.”

OSi-Traffic
is part of the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver
interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery
chain. The unique Harris approach brings together highly integrated and
cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and
for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition
services.
