Polar Mobile Inks Deal with NHLPA, Foresees Player-Focused Apps

The NHL Players’ Association and Polar Mobile have entered into an exclusive multi-year agreement to enable all NHLPA content and assets on mobile. Under the terms of the multi-year deal, the NHLPA has agreed to license all of its content for mobile distribution to Polar, which plans to build a series of player-focused smartphone applications for BlackBerrys, iPhones and other devices.

According to the National Post, the Polar deal marks the boldest step to date by a union of one of the big four North American pro sports leagues to market its athletes directly to the fans – without the filter of the league – via mobile technology.
