Korean National Broadcaster Procures Two Quantel Pablo Neo 2K for Color Correction

Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), South Korea’s national public broadcaster, has purchased two Quantel Pablo Neo 2K color correction and finishing systems.

One Pablo will be used by the KBS Computer Graphics Division for color correction, S3D manipulation and mastering of non-fiction programming such as documentaries. The second system will be used for the TV Drama Special Effects team at KBS Mediatech, where it will be handling color correction on the high profile dramas for which KBS is renowned.

“The perfect integration of the Neo control panel with the Pablo’s color correction toolset allows us to carry out complex, precision color grading very quickly and intuitively,” says KBS Colorist, Kim Jae-Sang. “And with the new V5 software enabling uncommitted in-context grading across multiple layers as well as realtime playback and very fast rendering, the system is powerful enough to deal with the very tight schedules we have to work within. I also think that the enhanced V5 stereo toolset is optimal for Stereo3D finishing work.”

KBS has been broadcasting HD programs since 2001 and by 2012 all of its programs will be produced and broadcast in HD. The world’s first terrestrial DMB service was launched by KBS on 1 December 2005 and offers television, audio and data services. There are 18 regional stations and 11 overseas bureaus as well as eight subsidiary companies.

Stereo D Brings in Pablo Neo for 3D Conversion

In addition, Stereo D, the Los Angeles-based 2D to 3D conversion company, has purchased a Quantel Pablo Neo to help it meet the significant increase in demand for its S3D finishing services. The Pablo will share workflow with Stereo D’s existing iQ 4K via a Quantel Genetic Engineering teamworking solution.

“With the enormous success we have enjoyed since we installed the iQ earlier this year, it was a natural choice to extend our capacity with the Pablo Neo and further boost workflow with Genetic Engineering,” says Aaron Parry, Stereo D Chief Creative Officer. “We now have the capacity to handle full-on S3D post in addition to our core 2D to 3D conversion business.”
