The Switch Offers Broadcasters a Global Gateway

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome The Switch as a corporate sponsor. Launched in New York following the first Gulf War, The Switch has developed into a global video gateway for the broadcast community.

Launched as a television-routing service in the New York metropolitan area, The Switch provides customer-controlled routing services in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, and Miami as well as internationally in London and Toronto. The company expanded in 2004 to provide long-distance video-transmission service among its locations through a service offering called Inter-City on Demand (ICOD).

Owned and operated by Beers Enterprises Inc., The Switch’s ICOD service allows customers to immediately establish intercity connections directly from its touchscreen Switch Control System. Offering both 270-Mbps uncompressed SDI and 1.485-Gbps uncompressed HD-SDI, ICOD offers the flexibility of immediate or reserved intercity transmissions in increments as small as 1 minute.

In 2009, The Switch added SDI and HD-SDI local circuitry to its bouquet of services. Through agreements with both AT&T and Verizon, The Switch now offers cost-effective local fiber circuits to customers in 31 states and Washington, D.C.
