Fox Sports Promotes Richards to NFL Sunday Coordinating Producer
FOX Sports Media Group has elevated Bill Richards to Coordinating Producer of FOX NFL SUNDAY, America’s most-watched NFL pregame show, and all of FOX Sports’ NFL-related studio programming, including THE OT postgame program. The announcement was made today by FSMG President & Co-COO Eric Shanks. Richards steps into the role Scott Ackerson, recently promoted, had held since 1994.
One of the most versatile and creative members of the FOX Sports production team, Richards has held a variety of positions over the past 15 years. His most visible came in February when he served as line producer for FOX SUPER BOWL SUNDAY prior to Super Bowl XLV in North Texas.
Richards spent seven seasons (2004-10) as the lead producer of FOX NASCAR SUNDAY, the network’s critically-acclaimed prerace show. He also produced comedian Frank Caliendo’s “Frank’s Picks” segment, one of the most popular and entertaining features on FOX NFL SUNDAY, and more recently has overseen FUEL TV’s studio programming including The Daily Habit, a mix of athletes, bands and celebrity interviews. Richards is also co-creator, producer and director of Cubed, a weekly sports variety show airing on FOXSports.com and FUEL TV. His work with FOX Sports has been recognized with six Emmy Awards.
“Bill is one of the best and brightest young producers in the business and we’re confident he will maintain the high production standards for which FOX NFL SUNDAY and THE OT are renowned,” Shanks said. “Bill has refined his skills under Scott Ackerson’s expert tutelage, while also stepping out on his own to produce FOX NASCAR SUNDAY. Bill’s longtime role on FOX NFL SUNDAY ensures a seamless transition into his new position.”
Richards joined the network production staff in 1996 where he has spent his entire professional career. Richards graduated from Cal State Northridge with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Ackerson was recently promoted to Executive Vice President and Executive Producer of all studio programming for the networks and entities within FOX Sports Media Group, which includes FOX Sports, Fox Sports Regional Networks, SPEED, FOX Deportes, FOX Soccer, FUEL TV and FOXSports.com.
