Telecast Fiber Systems’ Thor Product Family Receives SALUTE Award

Telecast Fiber Systems’ Thor family of fiber optic interfaces has received a 2011 Government Video SALUTE Award, presented by the staff of Government Video magazine during the 2011 Government Video (GV) Expo. The Thor product family harnesses the low cost and distance-spanning capabilities of fiber optics for managing and transporting video, audio, and USB signals over long distances.

Thor transports HDMI or DVI signals to flat-panel displays in a wide range of broadcasting, government, and professional A/V applications. Thor also provides a powerful and comprehensive switching system that ties all of the Thor product families together for systems demanding ease of use and flexibility in all monitoring applications.

Founded in 2003, Government Video‘s SALUTE Award is designed to honor and showcase innovative technologies, products, and services for the public sector as demonstrated at GV Expo. Industry professionals, Government Video editors, and contributors nominate candidates for SALUTE Awards, with the decisions on the final awards made by the magazine’s editors.

“The Government Video SALUTE Award recognizes some of the innovative products and services for video professionals on display at GV Expo. We are proud to call attention to these tools that specifically help public-sector video professionals support the missions of their agencies and provide better information to the citizenry,” said J.J. Smith, editor of Government Video.

The new Thor product line includes the Thor-SSM, which is a combination multiplexer, repeater, and crosspoint switcher; the Thor-C line of analog converters and extenders; and the Thor-SLG, a high-definition video/KVM system supporting up to 32 CPUs. The Thor family also features three fiber optic extenders: the Thor-EU for uncompressed video signals, the Thor-E for compressed DVI signals, and the Thor-HE, a one-fiber HDMI/audio extender. In addition to fiber, the Thor-E and Thor-SSM support installations using CATx copper cable to span distances up to 140 meters.

“It’s a great honor for our new Thor family to receive a Government Video SALUTE Award, and true validation of the potential these products offer in many different types of government and military applications — basically, any situation where fiber-based communications are supporting arrays of high-resolution, flat-panel displays,” said Steve DeFrancesco, vice president and general manager of Telecast Fiber Systems. “With the Thor product line, operators can drive these displays digitally through their DVI or HDMI interfaces to achieve optimum image and sound quality, and to squeeze the costs out of digital transmissions from any content source — even RGB. Plus, the Thor-E and Thor-SSM give operators the flexibility of using less-expensive copper for smaller deployments spanning shorter distances.”
