ESPN International, PGA TOUR Renew Multimedia Rights
ESPN International has reached a five-year rights agreement with the PGA TOUR to continue presenting coverage of PGA TOUR events across all means and media in Latin America and the Caribbean. The rights extension provides ESPN International with live media rights on its linear and digital platforms and extends the longstanding partnership with the PGA TOUR in Latin American through 2019.
Under the agreement, ESPN will have exclusive rights to carry up to 12 PGA TOUR events every year that include THE PLAYERS Championship each year and The Presidents Cup every two years – 2015 and 2017. ESPN will also have rights to air support programming such as Inside The PGA TOUR and Official Films.
“We have been presenting PGA TOUR programming across our platforms in Latin American for over 20 years and are thrilled to renew our agreement and remain the home of these renowned golf events for years to come,” said Michael Walters, vice president of programming, ESPN International. “ESPN will continue to deliver the highest quality production and world-class PGA TOUR content across all platforms to the millions of golf fans in the region.”
“As the PGA TOUR works to continue growing the popularity of golf across Latin America, we are delighted to extend our relationship with ESPN throughout the region,” said Rick Anderson, executive vice president of global media, PGA TOUR. “With golf returning to the Olympics in two years in Brazil, ESPN’s significant presence on both television and digital platforms will assist us with reaching the largest possible audience.”
ESPN’s coverage of the PGA TOUR events will be provided across a variety of the brand’s multimedia platforms including television, broadband and mobile applications. ESPN will also have rights to distribute additional PGA TOUR content from select tournaments across its digital platforms. This content includes coverage from up to four competition holes as well as the Featured Groups of the day.
