NBC Sports Digital Surrounds Super Bowl XLIX With Collection of Digital and Social Media Extensions
NBC Sports Digital’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIX includes more than 10 hours of live stream programming on Super Bowl Sunday, 24/7 news and analysis on NBCSports.com and ProFootballTalk.com, long-form reporting on NBCSportsWorld.com, and NBC Sports Group’s most comprehensive social media campaign ever across a plethora of platforms.

Led by creator of ProFootballTalk.com, host of PFT Live and PFT on NBCSN, and Football Night In America contributor Mike Florio, the site will provide on-site coverage from Phoenix all week. ProFootballTalk.com reporters Michael David Smith and Darin Gantt will be on-site at Super Bowl Media Day and provide coverage, as well as in-depth analysis of all the news surrounding the NFL and the biggest game of the season.
PFT Live will stream from Noon-1 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, from NBC Sports’ Super Bowl Central in downtown Phoenix.
NBCSportsWorld.com, NBC Sports Digital’s franchise dedicated to long-form storytelling, will surround Super Bowl XLIX with two weeks of coverage, from January 19 through February 1.
The site will feature in-depth stories from award-winning writer Joe Posnanski, including Posnanski’s review on “The Unquantifiable Quality That Sets Super Bowl QBs Apart From Average Players”. The story will examine New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, and many other NFL QBs who have played in the big game.
In addition, football writer Tom Gower will have stories comparing and contrasting the construction of the Patriots and Seahawks, plus a story on how New England TE Rob Gronkowski will be the most difficult player to defend during Super Bowl XLIX.
Rotoworld.com will provide comprehensive coverage around Super Bowl XLIX. Fantasy Sports Writer Association award-winner Evan Silva’s “matchups” column will feature player-by-player breakdowns of the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
NBCSports.com will provide 24/7 coverage and analysis of all the news surrounding Super Bowl XLIX. Digital video correspondent Jenna Corrado will be on-site gathering interviews from players and fans, and will deliver reports from Super Bowl XLIX festivities throughout the week. In addition, NBCSports.com NFL reporter Corey Griffin will file daily stories from Phoenix; from game analysis to features from Media Day and events around the city. Stories will include “How Michael Bennett became Seattle’s most indispensable defensive player,” “Five Matchups that will define the game” and “49 Things to know about Super Bowl XLIX”.
CSN New England Patriots Insider Tom Curran will write about “The culture clash between the button-downed Patriots and the anything-goes Seahawks,” and how this game will continue to define the legacy of Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Curran also will have a comprehensive look at whether quarterback Tom Brady and Belichick are the greatest QB/coach combination in NFL history.
Super Stream Sunday
Following the launch of NBCUniversal’s first ever TV Everywhere consumer campaign titled “Watch TV Without The TV,” NBCUniversal is creating Super Stream Sunday on Feb. 1, providing consumers with an unprecedented ability to enjoy 11 continuous hours of NBC streaming content without having to log-in, designed as a way for consumers to trial NBC’s TV Everywhere content offering. Super Stream Sunday content will include NBC’s presentation of Super Bowl XLIX, Katy Perry headlining the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, the Super Bowl XLIX pre- and post-game shows, and NBC’s post-game presentation of The Blacklist.
The special access event kicks off at noon ET with NBC’s Super Bowl pre-game coverage and concludes with The Blacklist, which follows post-game coverage at approximately 10 p.m. ET. Consumers accessing NBC Sports Live Extra and NBC.com during Super Stream Sunday will not be prompted to log-in with their cable/satellite/telco credentials; however, as part of this special access, they will receive consistent messaging in and around the experience about the ease in authenticating after the end of The Blacklist.
All Super Bowl content will be live streamed to desktops and tablets via NBC Sports Live Extra, NBC Sports Digital’s live streaming product. The Blacklist will also be streamed to desktops through NBC.com.
In addition, NBC UNIVERSO is home to the exclusive Spanish-language telecast of Super Bowl XLIX in the U.S., and will present live coverage on television and online. On Super Bowl Sunday, NBC UNIVERSO will present four hours of pre-game coverage and football-related entertainment, including Sabor Al Super Bowl, Estrellas del Medio Tiempo and La NFL en NBC UNIVERSO Super Bowl XLIX Pre-game Show and online at nbcuniverso.com.
NBC Sports Group will present its most comprehensive social media campaign ever to promote NBC’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIX, including around-the-clock coverage across all of NBC Sports’ social media platforms.
NBC SPORTS SOCIAL CENTRAL: During Super Bowl week, the NBC Sports social media team will be everywhere from Media Day to the sidelines on Super Bowl Sunday, covering every moment and play of #SB49. During gameday, NBC Sports’ Social Central will be a communications hub for all things social, spanning from Super Bowl Central, NBC Sports Group’s primary home for studio programming during Super Bowl week, located in downtown Phoenix, and University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, to NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn. Members of the NBC Sports social, digital, and marketing teams will be primed and ready to cover and react to any moment from pre-game through the final whistle and trophy presentation, including a social team member embedded with on-air production to relay any breaking news. Social media and digital content will be updated in real time.
PATRICK PETERSON TO SERVE AS SOCIAL MEDIA & DIGITAL CORRESPONDENT: Arizona Cardinals DB Patrick Peterson, a four-time Pro Bowler, will serve as NBC Sports Group’s social and digital media correspondent during Super Bowl week. As a member of the hometown Cardinals, Peterson will document his Super Bowl week on behalf of NBC Sports through his social media accounts. He will also film several videos around the city that will be pushed out through the SNF social media accounts and on NBCSports.com, including attempting to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record for most selfies taken in one hour.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS ATTEMPT: NBC Sports Social will be at Deer Valley High School in Glendale, Tuesday, January 27, as Patrick Peterson attempts to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record for the most selfies taken in one hour. Peterson will snap as many selfies as he can with the students from Deer Valley High School to break the current record of 657 selfies. In addition, the Sunday Night Football bus will be at the school and open to students after the record attempt.
DUDE PERFECT: NBC Sports Group has teamed with trick-shot experts and comedy stars Dude Perfect to create a trick shot video that will debut Sunday, February 1, during NBC’s Super Bowl pre-game show. Participating in the trick shot video will be Giants rookie WR Odell Beckham Jr. and two-time Super Bowl winner, Super Bowl XL MVP, and NBC NFL analyst Hines Ward. The content will be pushed out on NBC Sports’ social media platforms, and the trick-shot video will be available on NBCSports.com/dudeperfect following its release.
TUMBLR: NBC Sports Digital recently launched a Super Bowl-centric NBC Sports Tumblr page that will showcase Super Bowl XLIX’s television advertisements immediately after they air on NBC. Prior to Super Bowl Sunday, the page will be populated with original content created by NBC Sports’ marketing media team, as well as from re-blogging NFL-related Tumblr posts. On game day, the new page will transform into a hub for Super Bowl TV ads, and can be accessed at NBCSports.com/Ads.
#MYSUPERBOWLPICK: NBC Sports will ask influencers, celebrities, athletes and fans to tweet and post who they anticipate will win the game using #MySuperBowlPick to help drive the conversation around game day. In addition, social media handles from various NBCUniversal properties and celebrities will offer their picks.
Using the “Twitter Mirror,” NBC Sports will collect photos and picks from celebrities and athletes on-site at “Super Bowl Central” and at University of Phoenix Stadium to be featured on-air. TheSNF social media accounts will also be tracking fan picks to see which team is leading the social vote.
AROUND-THE-CLOCK COVERAGE: NBC Sports will cover Super Bowl XLIX from various Sunday Night Football and NBC Sports social media accounts to make sure every fan has access to the content they want leading up to the game.
Facebook: The NBC Sports and Sunday Night Football Facebook accounts will provide users with news from ProFootballTalk, shareable images, videos, and chats with NBC Sports Group commentators.
Twitter: @SNFonNBC will provide real-time news and photos from Phoenix as well as #MySuperBowlPick content through the “Twitter Mirror.” @ProFootballTalk and @NBCSports will post news and information on the game, and behind-the-scenes content from PFT Live.
Instagram: SNF on NBC and NBC Sports Instagram accounts will be one-stop shopping for photos throughout Super Bowl week with behind-the-scenes access to NBC’s production, including photos of NBC Sports Group commentators and sideline coverage documenting the game from kickoff through the celebratory confetti.
Vine: The NBC Sports social team will create content around Phoenix with on-site Vine influencers that will be posted on the Sunday Night Football and NBC Sports Vine accounts throughout Super Bowl week.
